Don’t get me wrong, I love shopping and styling outfits all year long, but December offers an opportunity to dress up unlike any other month. It could be that there are more parties and gatherings in the holiday season but I think its that we simply desire to express some of our Christmas spirit through the way we dress.
For example, as I sit in a Starbucks cafe writing this post, I am wearing a red plaid scarf, a black blazer with sequined sleeves and a fresh “Christmas Red” manicure. Come February, I’m just not sure this outfit would work. But I woke up feeling festive today and couldn’t help but dress the part.
I’ve pulled together four outfits for different occasions but my biggest fashion advice this season is to take risks and don’t be afraid to show your spirit. You don’t get many chances to wear fur coats over chiffon skirts or a red ribbon tied in your hair school-girl style – so take your chance now!
Look One: Holiday Party
LBDs are classic, we all know this. Opt for one with a unique fit. I love the asymmetrical Narciso Rodriguez dress shown above from Rent the Runway. Pair the dress with sleek ankle-strap pumps. Such a simple look needs something that is of-the-moment. The metallic clutch offers just the right amount of trendy shimmer.
Look Two: Christmas Morning
Don’t bother getting dressed before you head down stairs to check your stockings! Stay cozy in playful pajamas and Ugg slippers. You’ll want to look fresh in photographs, but not over-done. Just apply BB cream and a light coat of mascara to curled eye-lashes (and deal with any unruly bed-head) and enjoy your morning!
Look Three: Festive & Casual
This outfit is perfect for lounging around the house but is pulled together enough for family dinners and running last minute errands. Pair trendy waxed denim with a knit sweater and black flats. I adore the woven texture of these loafers from Vince Camuto.
Whether you’re taking a stroll with your boyfriend or just taking the dogs for a walk – you’ll want to bundle up. Oversized pink coats have been all the rage so far this fall/winter. Create a monochromatic base, wearing black from head to toe. Add studded leather gloves and a pom pom hat for extra warmth and style.
